WHY: To thank and recognize legislators, coalition and community partners, and other smoke-free champions who supported the Louisiana Smoke-Free Air Act (Act 815).
The Louisiana Smoke-Free Air Act is one of the most significant political victories for public health in recent history one that will have a long term, positive impact on the health of Louisiana citizens and the states healthcare system.
On January 1, 2007, the Louisiana Smoke-Free Act will eliminate smoking in most public buildings including restaurants (including those with bars), banks, healthcare facilities, hotel-motel lobbies, public transportation, sports arenas, theaters, shopping malls, K-12 schools and offices that employ more than one worker.
