REGIONAL COALITIONS

There are regional coalitions in each of Louisiana’s nine public health regions consisting of four core organizations: American Cancer Society, The Louisiana Cancer Control Partnership, Louisiana Office of Public Health and The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living.

Representatives from these four organizations meet monthly to mobilize their regional coalition around several focus areas. Additionally, they collaborate on tobacco control issues and conduct cancer-related activities. This work usually occurs through a tobacco subcommittee that seeks to educate their region about the hazards of tobacco and secondhand smoke through community events and forums.

Regional coalitions help raise the awareness of tobacco-related issues and support advocacy efforts pertaining to smoke-free environments which occur through grassroots volunteer recruitment. The regional coalitions also identify, promote and develop smoking cessation resources.
